The Path of Totality
Luke 21:25 There will be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars.
Historically, solar eclipses marked significant events. In the eighth century BC, Jonah, an Old Testament prophet, was sent to the Nineveh, the capital of Assyria in the time of king Jeroboam II of Israel. Assyria was the world empire that ruled from approximately 900 to 600 BC. It is quite amazing that the capital city of the ruling world power repented on 8 words: ”Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown,” unless there was something besides Jonah’s words, which gave the impression that the message was from God. This could very possibly have been the solar eclipse of 763 BC. This eclipse of the 15 June 763 BC is the longest recorded eclipse in history and lasted 7 minutes and 27.54 seconds. It could very well be that it was at this precise moment that Jonah was spewed out by the fish. Nineveh repented at Jonah’s preaching. A 150 years later in 612 BC, Nineveh fell to the Babylonians.
In another 150-year span, looking back to 1874 there has been 15 eclipses over the USA, 1878, 1889, 1900, 1918, 1923, 1925, 1930, 1932, 1945, 1954, 1963, 1970, 1979, 2017 and 2024. Two of these eclipses are total solar eclipses. The eclipse of 1918 traversed the entire country. This year marked both the year of the Purple Death flu, also known as the Spanish flu, and the end of World War 1 (WW1).
In 1918 the battle of Amians was the opening phase of the Allied Offensive and later became known as the 100 days offensive. The American eclipse of 1918 was 8 June 1918. Exactly two months after the eclipse on the 8 August 1918, the allied forces advanced to France.
The most powerful nation of the Western world, comparable to Assyria of the eight century BC, deployed warships to the Middle East following the declaration of war by Bejamin Netanyahu on the 7 October 2023 . The first was the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier strike Group on 14th October. The purpose is to prevent other nations from entering the Israeli-Hamas war.
In a strange way the possibility of war is again connected to a solar eclipse, just as WWI. On the 8th of April 2024 the path of totality of the American solar eclipse will cross Mexico, part of the USA and Canada and will last 4 minutes and 28 seconds.
Seven years ago, on 21 August 2017, the USA had a total solar eclipse dubbed the "Great American Eclipse" which was visible within a band that spanned the contiguous United States from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts. The paths of totality of this eclipse and the one of 2024,if mapped over the USA, form the Paleo- Hebrew letters aleph and tav , the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
Jesus, in the book of Revelation calls Himself, the aleph and the tav. Two thousand years ago the “path of totality” was the Via Dolorosa, the path that Jesus walked carrying His cross to the Golgotha, where He was crucified for the sins of the world. For three hours from midday there was darkness. The sun was obscured because the Son of Man died for the sins of the world. There is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon, but if Nineveh could repent after the perceived longest solar eclipse of 7 minutes, it is incomprehensible that the world did not repent after three hours darkness.
The book of Revelation speaks of this Jesus who is worthy to open the seals and Who is coming to fetch His bride. The sixth seal in Revelation 6:12 states that “When He opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth (a solar eclipse), the full moon became like blood.” It is after the sixth seal was opened that John wrote of a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, who stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.
This great multitude will be shouting:
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God!
For His judgments are true and just.
He has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality.
He has avenged the blood of His servants
that was poured out by her hand.”
(Revelation 19:1-2).
Jesus is coming soon. He is the way (path), the truth and the life. For those who believe in Him, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing under its wings.
